A driver has been arrested after ‘young lad’ was injured in a hit-and-run in Devizes.
Emergency services were called to the incident on the pedestrian crossing between The Crammer and The Green at about 7pm last night (2 April).
A white BMW is said to have struck the male and made off at high speed from the scene.
Eyewitnesses stepped in to provide emergency first aid, but the young male – who is believed to be a teenager – suffered only minor injuries and broken glasses.
Wiltshire Police officers quickly arrived at the location, before the roads policing unit and a dog unit were tasked to search for the fleeing vehicle.
One witness said the youngster was “animated and annoyed”, but was only “respectful and polite” to those trying to help him.
She added: “He took a hell of a hit but literally bounced back up again.
“The police were good with him and apart from being shaken up – he was good but incredibly lucky.”
After the car sped off towards Pewsey on the A342, officers found the vehicle and arrested the driver. The car was also seized.
The 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and dangerous driving.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Wiltshire Police by calling 101 and quoting log POL-20220402-0252.
