A driver has been arrested after two crashes on the M4 near the Chippenham junction.
Emergency services were called to the road traffic collisions between junction 17 and 16 eastbound at around 8am this morning (Wednesday).
One incident involved a Ford Fiesta and a Ranger Rover, while the second involved a single vehicle – which appeared severely damaged after hitting the central reservation.
Wiltshire Police has since confirmed that the driver of one vehicle was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken to Gablecross custody.
In a statement, the force said: “This incident was quickly resolved, however, shortly after this, a second collision took place – one of the drivers involved in this incident was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken to custody in Swindon.”
Fire crews from Chippenham were also sent to the scene, but no action as needed.
A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called to the M4 eastbound between J17 and J17 at 8.23am this morning (27 March) after a car collided with the central reservation.
“Two crews from Chippenham attended but no-one was trapped and no action from us was needed, so our stop was at 8.51am and we have now left the scene.”
