A drink driver has ‘ruined Christmas’ after ploughing into a car on the A346.
Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the main road between Swindon and Marlborough at around 7pm on Christmas Day.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance was among the 999 crews attending the serious incident – involving a BMW and a red Mazda 3 – just north of Ogbourne St George.
The occupants of the Mazda sustained what police have described as “relatively minor injuries” despite the destruction of the vehicle they were travelling in.
The driver of the BMW was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst over the prescribed alcohol limit. He’s understood to remain in custody this morning (Boxing Day).
In a statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit said: “It’s been illegal in one form or another since 1872; but some people still don’t seem to be getting the message about drink driving.
“Christmas ruined for the occupants of this Mazda; fortunately relatively minor injuries; one BMW driver arrested for driving with excess alcohol.”
