A drink driver was caught after she crashed her car into a parked vehicle in Calne.
Emma Stagg, 43, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning where she admitted driving whilst over the prescribed alcohol limit and possession of cannabis.
Crown prosecutor Keith Ballinger said the defendant, of The Lye, Seend, crashed her Peugeot 206 into another car in The Pippin on 29 May last year.
A witness, who was watching TV in his home, ran outside after hearing a loud noise to discover a car has collided with a parked vehicle. Stagg was seen to exit the Peugeot from the driver’s seat. There were two other passengers.
When he asked her what had happened, she said she was on her mobile phone. He smelt alcohol on her breath, so questioned her over it to which she told him she’d had a glass of wine.
The police were called and Stagg provided a positive sample of breath at the roadside. On an evidential breath test machine in custody, she blew 45 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
She was also found to be in possession of a small amount of cannabis.
Defending, solicitor Moses Tawo said his client is of previous good character which ‘has appeared to have come to an abrupt end’.
He told the court Stagg had been going through a ‘difficult stage in her life’ but said she’s since cleared up ‘the mess she found herself in’.
Magistrates imposed a £215 fine and a 12-month driving disqualification. She was also ordered to pay £200 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
