A major Swindon road has been closed following a potentially serious road traffic collision.

Drakes Way is closed by police between Greenbridge Roundabout and Queens Drive after a motorbike was involved a crash shortly before 9pm today (31 January).

Local residents reported a significant police and ambulance service presence, with at least eight police vehicles and three ambulances at the incident.

A motorcyclist is thought to have suffered significant injuries, but nothing has yet been confirmed by Wiltshire Police.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was seen in the skies above the scene at around 9.10pm, before it touched down in the nearby Swindon Rugby Football Club field.

The location of the collision is near the junction with Garrard Way, near the Mercedes-Benz showroom.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Motorists please be aware that Drakes Way is closed in both directions between Greenbridge roundabout and the roundabout with Queens Drive.

“This includes access from Marlowe Avenue, Ocotal Way and Penny Lane.

“This road will likely to be closed for some time so please allow extra time for your journey to allow for diversions.”
