Drakes Way in Swindon remains closed more than 11 hours after a serious crash.

A motorbike was involved in a road traffic collision in or around the junction of Garrard Way, near the Mercedes-Benz showroom, at around 9pm last night (31 January).

Eight police vehicles and several ambulances were reportedly in attendance.

This morning, Tuesday 1 February, the road remains closed for collision investigation work. It is expected to close throughout rush hour.

Wiltshire Police is yet to confirm the condition of any casualties, though it is understood to motorcyclists suffered significant injuries in the smash.

In an update, a spokesperson for the force said: “Motorists travelling through Swindon this morning, please be aware that Drakes Way remains closed in both directions and is likely to remain closed for the duration of the morning rush hour.

“This follows a collision in the area last night and collision investigators remain on scene conducting enquiries.

“The road is closed between Greenbridge roundabout and the roundabout with Queens Drive. This includes access from Marlowe Avenue, Ocotal Way and Penny Lane.

“Please allow extra time for your journey this morning as this closure may cause heavy delays. Thank you.”

A full update will be provided when appropriate.
