A ‘Kill the Bill’ protest is set to take place in central Swindon this weekend.
Demonstrations against a new Police, Crime Sentencing and Court Bill descended into riots in Bristol last week, sparking fears a similar event in the town could see the same result.
The Bill will, broadly speaking, give the police more powers to stop legal protests from going ahead, with the power to arrest and charge non-violent demonstrators.
It’s not clear who’s behind the arranging of the Swindon protest, which will take place in Regents Circus at 2pm on Saturday, 3 April.
Wiltshire Police are understood to be aware and making preparations to ensure the day goes by without incident.
Police Liason Officers, wearing a calming sky-blue uniform, are likely to be in attendance.
