A dispersal order has been put in place after police responded to numerous violent events outside a Wiltshire homeless hostel.
Wiltshire Police says it has attended several reports of fights and disorder breaking out near Unity House in Chippenham over the past few days.
The dispersal order, which also covers a grass area nearby, was put in place at 12.15am this morning (29 March) and will end at 2am tomorrow (30 March).
The order means that only residents of Unity House can be in the area during these times.
Inspector James Brain said: “It is hoped that this dispersal order will help reduce the likelihood of crime or disorder in the area, and prevent local residents from being distressed as a result of the actions of a few individuals.
“Over recent days we have had several reports relating to fighting and disorder outside of Unity House, stemming from people living in tents on the green area, who are not residents of the facility.
“These people have been drinking excessive amounts of alcohol which has led to complaints of disorder.
“We will be conducting regular patrols over the next 24 hours and anyone found in the area who should not be, will be removed immediately.
“Unity House is located within a residential area and I would like to reassure residents living nearby that we are doing all we can to tackle any issues.”
