A man has been arrested in connection with an ‘axe attack’ in Trowbridge.
Police were called to an injured man in the Manor Road/Frome Road area at around 4.45am last Friday (4 March) following reports of a man with serious injuries.
Local residents told Wiltshire 999s that they believe he was stabbed, however, the casualty – a 38-year-old local man – is said to have sustained wounds from a different kind of bladed article, an axe.
He was taken to hospital with a “significant” head injury, but was discharged later that day. His family say he is now recovering at home.
Police launched an investigation following the serious assault, with two crimes scenes – one in Manor Road, where the casualty was treated by the ambulance service, and another outside The Ship Inn.
Five days after the incident, the early hours of this morning (9 March), a 26-year-old man from Devizes was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He was interviewed by detectives and released on conditional bail.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Central CID on 101, quoting crime reference 54220022420. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800
