An incident in Devizes sparked a significant police and ambulance response last night.
Emergency services were called to the A361 Bath Road, in the Prison Bridge area, at around 8pm on Tuesday (16 January).
Local residents claim to have seen several police vehicles on scene alongside ambulances, with Wiltshire Air Ambulance landing nearby.
Speculation on social media has been rife, with suggestion a robbery took place and somebody entered the canal.
However, Wiltshire Police said they were attending a “mental health episode” – but the force would not confirm any further details given the circumstances.
South Western Ambulance Service said that they sent one double-crewed ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, an operations officer and an air ambulance.
It’s not clear if the patient was taken home, to hospital, a place of safety or custody following the incident.
