A crime scene is in place at a Wiltshire park following a reported serious sexual assault overnight.
Police taped off a small section of woodland at Monkton Park, Chippenham, early this morning (Easter Sunday) following the alleged sex attack.
Within the scene – located just metres from a popular children’s play area – is a bench, footpath and some bushes.
At least four detectives were in attendance at 9am, with forensics turning up a short time later.
In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “Detectives are investigating a report of serious sexual assault which occurred in the Monkton Park area of Chippenham in the early hours of this morning.
“As part of our investigation, a cordon was put in place at the scene but this has now been lifted. Enquiries are ongoing.
“Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the Monkton Park area, specifically between Chippenham High Street and near to the council offices in the park between 2.30am and 3.15am should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54230037299.
