A dashcam caught the moment a BMW raced past a horse on a country lane, causing it to jolt in fear.
The shocking incident happened in Wanborough Road, near Swindon, shortly before 6pm on Wednesday, 22 September.
In the video, it appears a motorist is travelling slowly behind the horse, its rider and assistant – all wearing high-visibility clothing – before the speeding car whizzes past.
It appears the silver BMW even clips the gravel curb as they attempt to avoid a collision, despite other vehicles passing slowly, terrifying the horse and nearly causing its rider to fall.
Wiltshire Police has launched an investigation into the incident.
A force spokesperson said: “We are aware of the incident which occurred on Wanborough Road at approximately 6pm (22/09) after it was reported to us later the same day.
“We are investigating the incident and will keep those involved updated as the investigation progresses.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to remind people that country roads and lanes have a high proportion of slow-moving traffic, including animals.
“We all need to share the highways and have respect for each other. This means thinking about those who might be more vulnerable than you and altering your speed accordingly.”
