UPDATE: Takeaway staff and ex-soldier praised as police confirm stabbing in Swindon >
A central Swindon road has been closed by police following a ‘serious assault’.
Emergency services were called a violent attack in the Manchester Road area shortly before 6pm this evening (Friday).
At the height of the incident, two ambulances, ambulance cars and Wiltshire Air Ambulance were in attendance.
Manchester Road, Gladstone Street and a number of alleyways have been cordoned off as a crime scene – with forensics expected imminently.
It’s understood that a person sustained serious injuries in an assault in an alleyway. They were treated and rushed to hospital by land ambulance.
Local residents claim a person was stabbed, but this has not been confirmed by authorities.
Swindon Bus Company, in an update on their website, said services were delayed or diverted due to a ‘stabbing’.
The area is likely to remain cordoned off for several hours, and potentially overnight.
