A crime scene is in place at Savernake Forest near Marlborough today following a serious sexual assault earlier in the week.
Wiltshire Police says it’s launched an investigation into 8.30am attack on Monday, cordoning off an area of road and woodland in the Cadley area.
“We have received a report of a serious sexual assault which is believed to have occurred in a location in Savernake Forest during the morning of Monday 26 October”, a spokesperson for the force told Wiltshire 999s.
Adding: “Our enquiries are currently ongoing and there is a scene preservation area in place.
”We are providing specialist support to the female victim.”
No arrests have been made as yet.
Detective Inspector Joe Saunders said: “Our enquiries are currently ongoing and there is a scene preservation area in place and people in the area may notice increased police activity while we carry out our investigation.
“We would like to hear from anyone who may have heard or seen something suspicious on Monday morning.
“The forest is a popular place for early morning walkers and dog walkers – so it’s possible there are several potential witnesses to this incident.
“No arrests have been made at this time but please be assured we take all reports of this nature very seriously.”
