A man has died after suffering a cardiac arrest at the wheel of his car.
Emergency services were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Thamesdown Drive, at the junction with Elstree Way, at around 8.50am today (2 April).
A red Honda Jazz was involved in a minor crash, with the male driver found to be unresponsive behind the wheel of the car by members of the public.
Despite the best efforts of medics, including a critical care team from Wiltshire Air Ambulance, the man – aged in his 80s – was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wiltshire Police has confirmed that nobody else was injured in the minor crash.
In a statement, the force said: “A man has sadly died following what is believed to have been a medical episode in Swindon earlier this morning.
“We were called to a road traffic collision on Thamesdown Drive, close to the junction with Elstree Way, at around 8.50am today (02/04).
“The driver of a red Honda, a man in his 80s, is believed to have suffered a medical episode which caused him to crash his vehicle. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this sad time.
“Nobody else was injured and the road was clear by around 2pm.”
