50 cows were guided back to their field by police in Calne today (Tuesday).
At around 12pm, officers responded to reports of the animals loose in Anchor Road.
Some had entered residents’ gardens, and had to be coaxed out – sparking road closures.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “With the assistance of several members of the public Neighbourhood, Response and Rural Crime Team Officers herded the cows back into nearby fields.
“We would like to pass on our thanks to everyone who helped us today.
“A small number of cows had to be coaxed from residents front gardens, which extended the time surrounding roads needed to be closed.
“All the cows have now been left in the care of the owner.”
