Counter-terror police are investigating anti-Islamic letters offering rewards for ‘butchering a Muslim’ and ‘burning down mosques’ – the letters are are being received across the UK.
The disturbing letters promote ‘Punish a Muslim Day’ on [redacted] April 2018.
The Counter-Terrorism Unit said in a statement: “Police are investigating a number of reports of potentially malicious communications sent to individuals across the UK.”
Reports on social media show letters have been distributed in various towns and cities across the country, including Bristol, Sheffield and London.
A spokesperson for Tell MAMA, an independent organisation which works on tackling anti-Muslim hatred, said: “We continue to receive reports of letters received from across the country. Now into double figures. Please report them into us at Tell MAMA or to 101. We are working with police forces on this malicious campaign.”
