The Environment Agency (EA) is monitoring the River Avon after the water level dropped dramatically in the Chippenham area.
The sluice gate in Lovers Walk, near Gladstone Road, became stuck partially open sometime before 26 October – causing too much water to flow through the weir.
It’s resulted in the river banks becoming exposed upstream, including in Monkton Park.
The EA said the incident will “limit recreational river use”, and confirmed it is “monitoring any environmental impacts and working on a solution”.
Drone photographs, taken by EA officers, show the drop in water level. In some areas, a significant chunk of the river banks are exposed, including near The Bridge House pub.
