A Cirencester-based aerobatics group has cut ties with one of their pilots after he was convicted of having a stash of abhorrent child abuse images.

Andy Cubin MBE, now known as Andrew Lloyd following a recent surname change, flew wingwalker planes for AeroSuperBatics after his arrest by Wiltshire Police.

Officers raided his home in February 2021, but the former Red Arrows pilot flew a plane for the group at Bournemouth Air Show in September – when one of the aircraft crashed-landed in the sea.

Lloyd, 59, pleaded guilty to possessing incident images of children – including 48 in the most serious category – at Swindon Magistrates’ Court yesterday (5 April).

Following the news, AeroSuperBatics operations manager Lorraine Wright said the group are “devastated” to hear about his offending, which has landed him a place on the sex offenders’ register.

“We are shocked and devastated by the case against this individual, which we were unaware of prior to reports of his court appearance on 5 April 2022”, she said.

Adding: “We have immediately terminated any association with him.”

Lloyd previously lived in Crudwell, near Malmesbury, but recently moved to Wood Close, Windsor, Berkshire. It was when it live in Wiltshire that officers raided his home and uncovered the indecent images.

He is yet to be punished for his vile crimes, but a sentencing hearing will take place at Swindon Crown Court in May.
