A police officer who was assaulted by a man in Highworth says he was “one of the most abusive people I have met in my 19-year career”.

The female PC, and her two colleagues PC Graw and PC Tape, were attacked when they responded to reports of a disorder in Edencroft, Highworth, last May.

Chris Allen was described as “agitated and hostile” when they arrived, and soon after, he began assaulting the officers as they attempted to calm him down.

All three officers suffered injuries in the incident, with the female PC sustaining severe bruising as a result of being grabbed by her arm and crotch.

In a victim personal statement, she described Allen as “one of the most abusive people I have met in my 19-year career”.

She went on to say: “He was relentlessly abusive towards us both physically and verbally.

“At no point did any of us retaliate, and our body-worn video shows how professional we were in dealing with him.

“I am sad that the situation escalated as it did. As a police officer, I fully expect to deal with situations like this, however, what I do not expect is to be assaulted and caused injuries.

“He’s a lot bigger and younger and stronger than me and I did nothing to deserve the abuse I received from him.

“The bruises I sustained lasted a couple of weeks and my main wish is that he reflects on what he has done and does not behave like this again.”

PC Tape rushed to hospital following the assault, in which Allen spat in his eye – and then claimed to have hepatitis C. Medics were forced to wash his eye and carry out blood tests.

The 27-year-old ambulance engineer escaped any form of prison term for his attack, instead, the court imposed an 18-month community order.

Though, the officers were awarded £200 compensation each.
