A Chippenham farmer has been charged with a series of violent offences against a woman.
Mark Candy, 47, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday, 29 September).
He is accused of twice raping a woman, attempted rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The alleged offences are said to have taken place on the same date, in September 2021.
The defendant, of Stowell Farm, located between Chippenham and Corsham, did not enter pleas to the charges.
Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, said three of the four offences are indictable only and the assault is inextricably linked – and asked for the case to be sent to the crown court.
Candy will next appear at Swindon Crown Court on 28 October for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
He was released on bail with conditions not to contact the alleged victim.
The alleged victim in this case has the lifelong right to anonymity. It is an imprisonable criminal offence to share any piece of information that could lead to the identification of the alleged victim.
