UPDATE: Boy, 11, died in incident near Tidworth Skatepark, police confirm
A child has reportedly died following a serious incident near a Wiltshire skatepark.
Police officers and paramedics rushed to the scene in A338 Pennings Road, Tidworth, at around 8.30pm yesterday evening (Friday, 18 August).
According to multiple sources, the child – whose age or sex has not yet been confirmed – died at the scene despite the best efforts of first responders.
It’s not yet clear what happened but the youngster was reportedly riding a scooter home from Tidworth Skatepark when they passed away.
Locals told Wiltshire 999s that numerous young people – said to be aged 11-14 – were sobbing and hugging one another just outside an area cordoned off with police tape.
Approximately ten police vehicles, numerous ambulance resources and a forensic collision investigation van were spotted in attendance.
Over the course of today (Saturday), many people have laid flowers and tributes at the scene.
Tidworth Town Council announced the Skatepark Jam, an event due to be held at the location today, has been cancelled but did not provide an explanation.
In a short and vague statement, a council spokesperson said that “it goes without saying” why it was cancelled – leaving some unaware residents baffled.
A Maverick Skateparks spokesperson said: “We are very sorry that the Tidworth Skatepark Jam has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
“We know this is disappointing news, and we apologise for any inconvenience it may cause at such late notice.
“We hope to reschedule the event for a later date with the Council. Thank you for your understanding.”
Mayor of Tidworth Carole Webb has been approached for comment.
