There’s been chaos in Old Town after two incidents sparked a police response.
Officers were first deployed to reports of an attempted robbery in Wood Street at around 4pm this afternoon (Tuesday).
Perpetrators targeted Deacons, a high-end jewellers and official Rolex retailer – smashing the front windows in a bid to access valuable goods on display.
It’s not clear if anything was stolen, but it appears the glass was not penetrated. It’s not know at this stage whether the offenders managed to get inside.
Wood Street was cordoned off ahead of the arrival of forensic investigators. However, the cordon was reduced to only the pavement outside the shop a short time later.
As officers guarded the crime scene, police raced to reports of a disorder breaking out at a nearby pub – The Goddard Arms.
Three police units attended at the incident, quickly deescalating the situation. As three more units arrived, it appeared everything was under control.
Nobody is believed to have been arrested, but several people were asked to leave the establishment.
