A casualty has been rescued via an upstairs window at a property in Wroughton.

Emergency services were called to a medical incident at an address in Priors Hill at around 10.30am this morning (Tuesday).

A patient was assessed by paramedics on scene, and required hospital treatment. However, circumstances meant they could not bring the person out in the usual fashion.

For reasons unknown, 999 crews’ only option was to remove them via an upstairs window.

In a four-hour rescue operation, firefighters – including a technical rescue unit from Westlea – worked to bring the casualty out of the building for further care.

The Aerial Ladder Platform appliance from Swindon was utilised. The patient, on a stretcher, was loaded onto the platform and lowered to the ground.

While emergency services worked, Priors Hill was closed in both directions – reopening at 3pm.

In a statement, South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust confirmed that they sent one double-crewed land ambulance, and an operations officer to the scene.

A spokesperson added: “We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Great Western Hospital.”

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said that they assisted in extricating a casualty.

“One crew from Swindon, the technical rescue team from Westlea, and the aerial ladder platform from Swindon are currently in attendance”, a spokesperson confirmed at the time.

Wiltshire Police officers only attended to provide road closure signage.
