A casualty has been airlifted to hospital after an incident at a home in Chippenham.

Emergency services were called to the scene at a property on the A420 Bristol Road shortly before 9am this morning (Tuesday).

Great Western Air Ambulance landed on the field at Sheldon School, just a few hundred metres from the seriously unwell patient.

The casualty was treated by the charity’s critical care medics and local ambulance crews.

At around 10.40am, the helicopter flew them to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol for further urgent care.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 08:53hrs on Tuesday 24 March to an incident in Chippenham We sent one double-crewed land ambulance, an air ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and two first responders to the scene.

“We conveyed one patient by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital.”

Alongside a photograph, Sheldon School issued a statement to parents via a social media post – informing them that the emergency did not relate to a student.

A spokesperson wrote: “This morning an air ambulance landed on our field. We’d like to reassure all parents that there was no incident at either school.

“The air ambulance was only using our field as a convenient place to land.

“We hope that the patient involved is well and would like to thank all who work with air ambulance charities for their service.”

A spokesperson for Great Western Air Ambulance Charity confirmed: “Our crew were tasked to an incident in Chippenham at 09:05 on 24 March 2026.

“They responded by helicopter with a Critical Care Doctor, Trainee Critical Care Doctor and Specialist Paramedic on board.

“They treated a patient on scene, before airlifting them to hospital for further treatment.

“We would like to thank Sheldon School for providing our crew with a safe space to land.”
