UPDATE: Driver sustains serious injuries after head-on crash on Wiltshire route
A casualty has been airlifted after a serious crash on a road just outside Devizes.
Emergency services were called to the A342 in Lydeway at around 12.30pm today (Saturday).
Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance was tasked, landing in a field alongside the incident.
One person sustained significant injuries and has been airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol for urgent treatment.
Further details about the road traffic collision are unknown at this early stage – but the road is likely to remain closed for some time.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision in Lydeway near Devizes.
“The A342 is closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for several hours.
“Closures are in place at Marshall Road Roundabout, Wedhampton and Etchilhampton.
“Please follow the diversion routes of B3098 and A360 through Urchfont/Market Lavington/Potterne.”
