Police are investigating an incident in which a mobility car was allegedly rammed down the road and into the path of schoolchildren by an angry car shop manager in a fit of rage.

A family say they visited Julians Garage – based out of Swift Tyres in Westcott Place – to complain about a car which they had recently purchased due to discovering a number to faults. Despite offering a 30-day money-back guarantee, it’s claimed a full refund was not offered.

It’s said a specially adapted black Hyundai Tuscan belonging to the family was parked on the site when a member of staff involved in the dispute over a refund for a different vehicle got into a white van, revved the engine several times and deliberately reversed into it. The van suffered significant damage to its rear end in the collision.

In the shunt, the Hyundai is said to have travelled through the site car park and into the path of oncoming traffic in Westcott Place before nearly colliding with two schoolchildren who had just left Robert Le Kyng Primary School via the back gate – directly opposite the car garage’s entrance.

When approached for comment, the garage manager told our reporter: “I don’t have nothing to say”.

Police officers and a paramedic were called to the scene at just after 3pm last Tuesday (14 July), where a man – the driver of the Hyundai – was treated for injuries to his back, arm and leg. He attended Great Western Hospital for his injures which are said to be minor.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “At around 3.10pm last Tuesday (14/07) we were called to an incident outside a business premises in Westcott Place, Swindon.

“It is alleged that the driver of a Ford Transit van deliberately collided with a Hyundai Tucson. The driver of the Hyundai is believed to have suffered minor injuries.

“No arrests have been made, but our enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information who has not already spoken to the police should call 101, quoting reference 54200068969.”
