A car burst into a raging fireball after a near-miss with a house in Swindon.
A blue Ford Focus slammed into a bollard on a driveway in Penhill – and was just inches from ploughing into the side of a residential building as people slept.
The 20-year-old car burst into flames following the incident in Winterslow Road, which happened at around 2am this morning (Friday).
It’s believed the driver was dragged out of the vehicle before he was arrested by officers. Locals claim he was drink driving, but this has not been confirmed by authorities.
Wiltshire Police was approached for a statement at 9am today but is yet to respond.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said that a crew from Stratton attended the scene following reports of a car “well alight”.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus “used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, which destroyed the vehicle”, a spokesperson confirmed.
One of the occupants of the address told Wiltshire 999s that the driver was “pulled from the car”, adding that her house avoided damage.
She said a bollard and her own parked car slowed the out-of-control Ford to a stop before it could strike the property.
