Police have launched an investigation after a cannabis farm was uncovered during a pub fire.
Emergency services responded to reports of The Crown Inn, in Cerney Wick, ablaze shortly after 11pm on Sunday (27 March) – with six fire crews sent to tackle the flames.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue sent two fire engines from Cricklade and Stratton to the incident, which was located just 50 metres from the Wiltshire border.
25 firefighters were involved in stopping the flames, and whilst doing so they located a number of cannabis plants inside the building.
Gloucestershire Constabulary said officers subsequently arrested two men, aged 42 and 45, on suspicion of being concerned in the production of a Class B drug.
They remain in custody for questioning this afternoon, a force spokesperson confirmed.
Police officers remained at the scene this morning (Monday) collecting and bagging evidence in first-floor rooms of the building. Two police vehicles were parked in the pub car park.
The fire itself isn’t being treated as suspicious – indicating that it started accidentally.
