A canal towpath was closed this morning after body is spotted floating in the water.

Emergency services were called to the Kennet and Avon Canal in Semington at around 10am this morning, following reports of a body in the waterway.

A crime scene was put in place for a number of hours while police investigated the incident, however, it’s understood that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A police spokesperson said: “We can confirm that officers were called to the Kennet and Avon Canal just after 10am this morning, Monday, September 24, 2018, to a report of a body in the water.

“The towpath was closed whilst the body of a man was recovered.

“We are in the process of informing his next of kin.

“At this early stage there appear to be no suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for H M Coroner for Wiltshire.”
