A teenage schoolboy has been rushed to hospital after he was sprayed with a substance.
Emergency services were called to Broad Street at around 4.30pm where firefighters doused the child with water before he was taken into the ambulance and blue-lighted to hospital.
It’s understood that the boy was attacked after leaving his school, before running home.
A crime scene cordon was in place around where the incident took place, blocking the road between Gladstone Street and Salisbury Street, until around 6pm when the tape was lifted.
It is thought the substance was either a form of acid or pepper spray.
A police spokesperson said: “We were called at just after 4pm today after reports that a young teenage male had been assaulted. The male has been taken to hospital by ambulance.”
