Emergency services were called to Dorcan Way following the serious crash outside the Holiday Inn, near Coate Water Roundabout, at around 6.10pm.

Wiltshire Police have confirmed that the pair alighted a bus in the road and attempted to cross behind it – where they were subsequently hit by a van.

Thames Valley Air Ambulance and Great Western Air Ambulance (GWAAC) attended the scene, landing in nearby fields. GWAAC also sent a team in a rapid response vehicle.

The woman and boy were treated by at least seven specialist critical care medics, three ambulance crews, numerous police officers and several members of the public.

Both casualties – who suffered serious injuries – were rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for further treatment, where they remain.

In a statement today (Saturday), Wiltshire Police said: “Two pedestrians have been taken to hospital following a collision on Dorcan Way, Swindon, yesterday evening (22/05).

At around 6.10pm, two pedestrians – a four-year-old boy and a 19-year-old woman – alighted a bus on Dorcan Way and crossed the road behind the bus.

They were then involved in a collision with a van travelling in the opposite direction.

The woman suffered serious, potentially life-changing injuries. The boy has suffered potentially serious injuries.

They both remain in hospital for treatment.

The van driver, a man in his 20s, stopped at the scene.

The road was closed in both directions to allow for enquiries to take place and has now reopened.

Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have dash cam is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 275 of yesterday’s date.

Alternatively, they can contact the team directly at [email protected].”
