A 17-year-old boy has appeared in court after threatening two girls with a machete.
The under 18, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to affray and possession of an offensive weapon at Swindon Magistrates Court today (1 September).
The Crown Prosecution Service said he made threats towards the teenage girls whilst brandishing a machete on Monday (30 August), resulting in police being called to the scene.
The incident, which district judge Joanna Dickens labelled as “one of the most serious cases of affray I’ve seen for a long time”, took place in a play park off White Eagle Road, Haydon End.
The defendant appeared on video link from Gablecross custody having been remanded since his arrest following the disorder.
Concerned the 17-year-old would commit further offences, Ms Dickens remanded him into the care of Swindon Borough Council.
The local authority will decide where he will live and sleep whilst obeying a 9pm to 7am curfew imposed by the court.
The boy will next appear in court on 12 October.
