The body of a missing Chippenham man has been found in the River Avon.
81-year-old Micheal went missing at around 6am this morning (Saturday) – sparking police to launch an urgent search.
The pensioner, who lived in the Greenway Lane area, was without viral medication.
At around 10.30am, he was located in the River Avon. Wiltshire Air Ambulance was deployed and landed close to the incident off Riverside Drive at 10.45am.
However, Michael was pronounced dead and the flying medics were stood down – leaving approximately ten minutes later.
An area of river bank has been cordoned off as a crime scene while enquires are carried out, but there are not believed to be an suspicious circumstances.
His family have been informed and were in attendance at the scene.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Police have found the body of a missing man in the River Avon.
“We can confirm that a body has been found in the search for missing Chippenham man Michael.
“Michael, 81, was reported missing this morning from his home near Greenway Lane.
“Officers have been carrying out enquiries since the initial report, and sadly, a body was found at 10.30am. We do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances at this early stage.
“Michael’s family have been informed and are being supported by officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
