A BMW driver and his passengers have been arrested as the car hit 140mph on the M4.
At approximately 1.10am this morning (Wednesday), traffic cops observed a grey M4401 heading east from Junction 16 at high speed.
Following the vehicle, the driver proceeded to drive at speeds of up to 140mph between Junction 15 and Membury Services.
The vehicle was stopped at the services and a roadside drugs wipe test was conducted – which was positive for cannabis.
A search of the car by police dog Reggie revealed a large amount of cash and potentially stolen bank cards.
The driver – a man in his 20s from London – was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and fraud by false representation.
A 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old man both from London were also arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation.
All three men remain in custody in Gablecross for questioning.
Sgt Will Ayres, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “The vehicle immediately caught our attention due to the excessive speeds that it was travelling at.
“Driving at these speeds, and whilst under the influence of drugs is extremely selfish and dangerous and puts the lives of road users at serious risk.”
