A biker has sustained serious injuries after being hit by a lorry in Melksham.
Emergency services were called to Market Place following a road traffic collision outside The Kings Arms shortly before 1pm this afternoon (Tuesday).
Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance were scrambled – responding in both a rapid response vehicle and the helicopter, which touched down on a field near the library.
Working alongside other 999 crews, the charity’s critical care medics provided urgent treatment to the wounded motorcyclist – a man aged in his 20s.
The biker, who sustained leg serious leg injuries, was rushed to hospital for further care.
The road was closed for around two hours while the incident was dealt with, but has since reopened.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews from Trowbridge and Chippenham attended, making the scene safe and assisting with casualty care.
In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “At around 12.55pm today we responded to a collision between a motorcycle and an HGV in the Market Place, Melksham.
“The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
“No arrests were made. The road was closed to allow for enquiries to take place and has now reopened.”
