An arson investigation has been launched after a huge blaze in Trowbridge.
Emergency services were called to allotments off Bradford Road following reports of flames and a significant smoke plume at around 9pm on Sunday (23 August).
Fire crews from Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon, Melksham and Warminster were dispatched, alongside police – who closed the road in both directions.
Ten firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using three main jets and two hose reel jets, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said.
Wiltshire Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, which is understood to be being treated as arson.
Numerous sheds, allotments, hedgerows and an adjacent field suffered damage.
Nearby homes were evacuated as fire crews worked at the scene – with residents able to return before midnight.
