Arrest warrants have been issued for six people over unpaid council tax bills.

Four women and two men were due to appear at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court for a hearing on 10 April – but didn’t show up, according to court records.

As a result, warrants for their arrest without bail were issued by the bench.

Police officers will now be tasked with locating and arresting the defendants – and are likely to remand them in custody until the next available court sitting.

List of defendants wanted on warrant:

• Lianne Townsend, of Newtown, Trowbridge allegedly owes Wiltshire Council £4794.55.

• Wayne Morgan, of Rawlins Road, Pewsey allegedly owes £4528.01.

• Rachel Mitchell, of Common Hill, Cricklade, allegedly owes £5560.41.

• Paulina Zuzanna Kasprzyk, of Marshfield Road, Chippenham, allegedly owes £2625.93.

• Carol Hastings, of Greenfields, West Grimstead, allegedly owes £5479.89.

• Adam Dunkerton, of West End, Bishop Cannings, allegedly owes £4028.48.

Failing to pay council tax is a not a offence, but can result in a prison sentence if debts are not paid.

In most circumstances, councils attempt to negotiate with residents who don’t pay up – and court action is the last resort to recover monies owed.
