A man has been arrested following a serious assault in Swindon this morning.

South Western Ambulance Service attended the scene in Windbrook Meadow, off Ermin Street, at around 0.30am where they treated a casualty with a head injury.

Police were subsequently called to the incident. Officers cordoned off part of Ermin Street, opposite the junction for Coronel Close – it remained in place at 11am.

A man in his 20s was taken to Great Western Hospital with what police are describing as a “significant head injury”.

A man, also in his 20s, has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called at approximately 00.30am this morning (24/04) by the ambulance service to a report of an assault on Windbrook Meadow.

“A man in his 20s has been taken to Great Western Hospital with a significant head injury and a man, also in his 20s, has been arrested on suspicion of GBH. He was taken to Gablecross Police Station where he remains in custody.

“A scene remains in place and our enquiries are ongoing but there is no risk to the wider public.”
