Armed police have stormed a train following a report of a man carrying a gun.

Firearms officers were spotted running into Swindon station at around 6pm on Sunday (27 July).

They swiftly boarded a Bristol Temple Meads-bound GWR train, stopping the suspect.

However, officers found that the ‘gun’ was actually a plastic prop sword wrapped in a towel.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that no arrests were made and no offences are being investigation in connection with the incident.

If you are travelling on public transport, British Transport Police say: “If you see something that doesn’t feel right, we want to hear from you.

“Let us decide if what you have seen or what you know is important.

“You should tell a member of rail staff or a police officer what you have seen. You can also call us on 0800 40 50 40, or text us on 61016. In an emergency, always call 999.”
