Armed police launched a search after a man with a crossbow was seen in Chippenham.
Firearms officers swarmed Chippenham Golf Club at around 8.40pm on Thursday (19 June).
The National Police Air Service helicopter from Bournemouth was deployed, circling the golf course, adjacent woods and the village of Allington.
The aircraft remained in the skies above for around 45 minutes, before returning to base.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police confirmed that they had reports of a “man potentially carrying a crossbow”.
They added that a “thorough search of the site was conducted”, but nobody matching the description of the suspect was found.
The force said that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
