The A420 is closed in Swindon as firefighters battle a major fire.
Emergency services were called to the scene directly opposite Gablecross Police Station at around 4pm this afternoon (Friday).
Numerous fire appliances from Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire are in attendance – with water blasted on the flames from an aerial platform.
The building is a derelict farmhouse – which is due to be developed. A sign outside the burning property reads: “Land acquired for another exciting development by RO Real Estate”
The A420 between Shrivenham and Thornhill Road (South Marston) is closed in both directions while the incident is dealt with.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We are currently dealing with a derelict building fire off the A420 Shrivenham Road.
“There’s a lot of smoke so local people are advised to keep doors and windows closed if affected.
“Swindon Police have closed the road while we fight the fire.”
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Please be aware that the A420 near Gablecross Police Station is currently closed due to a significant fire involving a farmhouse.
“We are currently at the scene supporting our colleagues at the fire service. Please avoid the area.”
