The A419 was closed this afternoon when a man threatened to jump from a bridge.

Emergency services, including a fire engine, responded to reports of the distressed male holding a bottle of cider on the Kingsdown Road bridge at around midday today.

The A419 and Kingsdown Road were shut in both directions causing severe travel delays.

After some discussion with the man in the heavy rain, a police officer managed to get him away from the edge of the bridge and into a police vehicle. The road reopened at 1.05pm.

It’s understood he’s being taken to a place of safety.
