The A36 is closed following a plane crash, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the major A-road, near the junction for Farleigh Hungerford, earlier this afternoon (Wednesday).
A small plane is understood to have struck a pylon causing power cables to come unattached and dangle over the carriageway, before overturning near farm-managed airstrip.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance was among the significant number of 999 crews in attendance.
The only occupant of the aircraft, the pilot, did not suffer any notable injuries in the incident.
The A36 is closed between the Beckington roundabout and the A366, while the A366 is closed between Bath Road, Norton St Phillip, and the A36.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are currently assisting our colleagues at Avon and Somerset Police and the fire service following an incident on the A36 near the turning for Farleigh Hungerford.
“A small aircraft has been involved in a collision with power lines, causing the lines to be down across the road.
“There are not thought to be any serious injuries.
“The A36 is currently closed near the junction for Farleigh Hungerford and is likely to remain so for several hours. Please find alternate routes.”
Avon and Somerset Police said that “a light aircraft collided with a pylon in a field” and confirmed that “no one was seriously hurt”.
A spokesperson for the force added: “The Air Accident Investigation Board has been notified.
“A small number of properties are currently without power. Road closures are expected to be in place for 12 hours.”
