A man is in critical condition after being hit by a van outside a hotel on the A3102.
Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision at the entrance to The Wiltshire Hotel near Royal Wootton Bassett early this morning (Thursday).
A man, aged in his 30s, was struck by a silver Volkswagen Caravelle van and sustained significant injuries. He was rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol in a life-threatening condition.
The driver of the vehicle involved was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and drug driving. He remains in custody for questioning.
Road closures are in place just outside Royal Wootton Bassett – on the A3102 Hunts Mill Road junction with Primrose Hill (West) and Breach Lane (East).
A forensic collision investigation is ongoing and therefore the route is likely to remain closed until later today – possibly into the evening.
Lorries and motorists accessing The Wiltshire Hotel are being allowed through the closure, but this is at the discretion of officers at the scene.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and be aware of potential delays in the area. Thank you for your patience.”
