The A303 is closed in Wiltshire as two air ambulances land for a serious crash.
Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision on the major route between Deptford and Winterbourne Stoke at around 2.15pm this afternoon (Sunday).
Thames Valley Air Ambulance landed at the scene at 2.45pm – flying from it’s Oxfordshire base. Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance is also on the ground.
The circumstances of the crash are unclear at this early stage, but the road is closed eastbound. A westbound closure could also follow.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is also in attendance alongside local ambulance crews and police.
In a statement, a spokesperson said: “The A303 between Deptford and Winterbourne Stoke is currently blocked eastbound due to a road traffic collision. Please avoid the area.”
National Highways say the road is closed both ways.
An update online reads: “The A303 in Wiltshire is closed in both directions between the A36 (Deptford) and the A360 (near Salisbury) due to a serious collision.
“Wiltshire Police, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire, South West Ambulance Services and the Air Ambulance are in attendance.
“It is expected that the road will remain closed for several hours.”
