A gun was found near to the body of Prince William’s cousin at her family home near Malmesbury last week, an inquest heard.

20-year-old Rosie Roche died at an address near the village of Norton on Monday 14 July.

The incident saw Great Western Air Ambulance scrambled to the scene, alongside numerous other ambulance resources and armed police.

She was discovered by her mother and sister, shortly after she had reportedly been preparing for a trip with friends – according to a report by The Sun.

Police attended the scene and located a firearm close to her. Detectives found no suspicious circumstances and no evidence of third-party involvement.

The weapon was secured by specially-trained firearms officers, and seized as evidence.

An inquest was formally opened at Wiltshire and Swindon Coroner’s Court and has been adjourned until 25 October.

Area coroner Grant Davies confirmed that police are not treating the death as suspicious.

Rosie, the granddaughter of Princess Diana’s uncle, had been studying English Literature at Durham University.

“She will be sorely missed”, a spokesperson said.

At the time of the incident, a statement from Wiltshire Police read: “This relates to the sudden death of a woman in her 20s.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and our thoughts are with her family. We would ask that their privacy is respected at this terrible time.”

Rosie’s family declined to comment. A spokesperson for Prince William also declined to make a statement.
