A Wiltshire teacher is facing 13 charges of sex offences against girls and boys.

29-year-old Bronwen James is accused of engaging in sexual activity with three children over a three-year period, ending in late 2023.

The huge scale of her alleged offending has been revealed in charges ahead of her first hearing at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (9 July).

The defendant, of Lytham Close, Chippenham, has been charged with:

• Engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 14 (x2)

• Engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 14 (x3)

• Engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 15

• Sexual activity with a boy aged 16 – abusing a position of trust (x4)

• Engaging in sexual communication with a child aged under 16 (x2)

• Make an indecent photograph of a child in Category C

The now-former PE teacher worked at Hardenhuish School in Chippenham and Bitterne Park School in Southampton when the alleged crimes took place.

Due to the serious nature of the charges, the case is likely to be sent to a crown court. Little detail is likely to be heard at tomorrow’s hearing.

In a statement by Wiltshire Police on Monday (7 July), a spokesperson wrote: “A former teacher is due to appear before Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (09/07) having been charged with sexual offences relating to three children.

“Bronwen James, 29, from Chippenham, taught PE at Hardenhuish School in Chippenham and Bitterne Park School in Southampton.

“She faces charges relating to sexual activity and communications against three children over a three-year-period.”

Alleged victims of sexual crimes have the right to lifelong anonymity. It is an imprisonable criminal offence to share any piece of information that could lead to their identification.
