Police searching for a missing army sergeant in Wiltshire have released new CCTV images in a bid to locate him.

Alex Cairnie, 30, was captured on security cameras walking around Tesco in Tidworth at about 11am on Sunday (6 July). He had earlier left Tidworth Camp and has not been seen since.

Search efforts are being led by Wiltshire Police in partnership with the hundreds of military personnel, with both organisations expressing concern for Alex’s wellbeing.

He is described as around 5ft 7in tall, with an athletic build, mousy brown hair and a beard.

At the time of the sighting, he was wearing a grey sweatshirt and dark grey outdoor trousers with black knee patches.

His disappearance has prompted a significant response, with appeals being shared widely across the region.

Wiltshire Search and Rescue say that yesterday (7 July), more than 275 people from the police, military and five Lowland Rescue teams were involved in the operation.

Officers say they are keeping an open mind about where he may have gone but are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen him since he left the camp.

Sgt Gareth Brooks made a personal appeal to the missing soldier, urging him to make contact as soon as possible.

He said: “Alex, we need to know that you are safe. Please call 101 and ask to be put through to me directly. I’m here to listen and I can give you the time you need to talk things through.

“There are many people, who care about you and they need to know that you are OK.”

Officers continue to carry out enquiries locally, including reviewing CCTV footage, speaking to witnesses, and working closely with their army colleagues.

Wiltshire Police are also urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any potential sightings or relevant information immediately.

Anyone who sees Alex or knows of his whereabouts is urged to contact police immediately on 999 quoting log 54250084191.
