Emergency services are carrying out a training exercise at McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Village in Swindon this evening (Sunday).
Wiltshire Police confirmed the operation is ongoing and the public will see a significant 999 presence in and around the shopping centre for several hours.
The training scenario, details of which remain undisclosed, is designed to prepare emergency teams for major incidents.
Locals have reported seeing police vehicles and ambulances at the entrance on Rodbourne Road and a metal police cordon at one of the pedestrian entrances off Kemble Drive.
Police have asked people to avoid the area while the exercise is taking place.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Please be aware that we are currently conducting a multi-agency training exercise at McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Village, Swindon.
“You may see a heightened emergency services presence at the centre for the next few hours while the exercise is carried out.”
Police thanked the public for their patience and reassured residents that there is no cause for concern.
Further updates on the exercise are expected tomorrow (Monday 7 July).
